Families Together has been the Parent Training and Information (PTI) Center for Kansas since 1986. This grant allows us to serve families of any child with a disability who receives early intervention or special education services in the state. Our training and support for families is centered on helping families to become true partners with their child’s team to create a set of services to provide the child or youth with a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Parent Training and Information centers (PTIs) are available in each state (link the Parent Center Portal here). Families Together provides these services by offering individual assistance to families on the phone, by email, or in person at one of our Centers.

Our staff also offers assistance through group training to support groups, presentations at conferences, and by providing workshops across the state. Any family can call or email for information at no cost. Each center has materials on topics of interest to parents and the professionals who serve children with disabilities. These materials include information about community services of interest to parents of children and youth with disabilities.

Families Together Staff:

  • serve families of children and young adults from birth to age 26 with all disabilities: physical, intellectual, learning, emotional, attention deficit disorders, etc.;
  • train and inform parents and professionals to help families obtain appropriate education and services for their children with disabilities;
  • work to improve education results for all children, and resolve problems between families and schools or other agencies;
  • connect children with disabilities to community resources that address their needs.
